This, from the current New Yorker, gets the proportion of sexual wants to sexual needs roughly right. You can't always get what you want - or not all that you want. But that is no reason to set your sights so low as to try only to get what you need.

I would say that there is very little indeed that one needs. Even less than in the cartoon. But tell me, do you think one "needs" other people at all? Perhaps it is all simply a matter of want, not need.
